Sourdough Bread Pizza

When you want a tasty pizza but are too lazy to put all that effort into it. Crispy and tasty, easy to make, won't take all day to prepare.

Start with a nice sourdough boule, have it run through the bread slicer at the bakery to get consistent slices.

  • Line a cookie sheet with foil. Cheese that falls off the edge will burn and the foil makes a big difference in clean-up.
  • Spray or brush on a liberal coating of olive oil.
  • Lightly sprinkle the oiled foil surface with garlic salt,
  • Lay out slices of sourdough bread.
  • Spread the pizza sauce of your choice on the bread. (I often use sauce packets from the store - keep it easy!)
  • Add the pizza ingredients of your choice. Keep it simple: italian sausage or pepperoni, mushrooms are suggested. A little garlic and/or basil certainly won't hurt.
  • Top with mozzarella, or italian blend. Sprinkle a little romano or parmesian on top.

Sauce, toppings and cheese should go out to the edge of the bread crust. Some cheese will inevitally run off the edge and burn on the pan, that's the reason for lining the pan with oil-coated foil.

Bake at 400F until the cheese on top browns nicely. If all goes well, the bottom of the bread slices will also be toasted nicely. The toasted sourdough (with a hint of garlic salt) makes a great, slightly crunchy crust.
